...The Moon Goddess...
Soaring high above the sod on thermals originating from Mount Korcal was an eagle. He wheeled and played in the air, seemingly about to fall to earth at any moment. He flew slowly away from Korcal in the direction of Indwar forest, but when he felt the breeze originating from there, he turned around again. The giant bird allowed the wind to carry him past the mountain he'd just been hovering over and onward to the lake the came after the mountain.
It was a beautiful lake, surrounded by a densely forested area that ended abruptly at the foot of Mount Korcal, whre the boundary seperated the two lands. After about twenty miles of forest on any side of the lake, there was a wide expanse of grass that covered rolling hills. It was an amazing, green, lush grass that would fill an herbivore in minutes. The pastures ended several yards from the shoreline, fading into white, sparkling sand that surrounded the lake. The area of Lake Luna was huge.
The lake itself was a clear, bright blue that had once been nearly destroyed by the human race; but you'd never know it - now the lake was thriving. The water was unaturally still for such a large lake, and the glass-like texture of the water was only broken by the occasional jump of fish. And yet as the wind carrying the eagle reached it, the water broke into chaos. Waves lapped against the shoreline, seemingly caressing the shimmering sand...
The eagle soared over the lake and onto the next land, leaving a light breeze playing in his wake. A smile parted my maw as I watched him go, and I close my aqua hued orbs to summon my retractable wings. Within moments, I was soaring into the air on golden wings with black-tipped feathers. I revelled in the thermals coming from my lake and hovered over it for a while. Then, suddenly, I had an urge to dive... and dive I did. Straight into the water.
My wings disappeared into my back, leaving no mark where they had been. I dove deeper into the clear water, breathing easily. My lake has always been the clearest, mainly because I wish it to be. I am a goddess, you know. Multi-colored fish swam by, and their greetings filled my crown. I nod regally to them, my movements slowed and blurred by the water. Finally, I brake the surface of Lake Luna again and swim to shore. As I step out of the water, all of the leftover droplets on my pelt slide off and go back into the lake.
I am left as dry and well-groomed as before. My flight and my dive have taken care of some boredom - and yet the fact remains: Masalia is empty. But for the dieties, we have one young brute who has joined us - and he has all but disappeared. I sigh sadly, reminiscing in the days when Masalia was full to bursting. The days when all one had to worry about was who was winning what fight, who to invite into your home, and who was trouble. But now, there's so much more. Masalia is dying.
We dieties are doing our best - but without our mortal brethren, there is little we can do. We can only hope for more newcomers. We need them. I fly over Masali day by day, searching deserately for life. But I am always emt by lifeless silence. There is never anyone there. Although none of us speak of it, all four dieties are worried. And me? I'm not just worried. I'm terrified. What will it take to revive our world? Why won't anyone come? But then I tell myself: patience is key. They will come. They must come. Or else, Masalia is doomed.
